The World Is Burning – We’re Here For You

It’s impossible to ignore: the world feels like it’s on fire.

From political instability and economic collapse to the ever-present threats of climate crisis and social injustice, existing—especially as a woman, a non-binary person, or someone from a marginalized community—can feel unbearably heavy.

If you’re feeling exhausted, hopeless, or overwhelmed, you’re not alone. But even in the darkest moments, there are ways to care for yourself and push forward. This isn’t about toxic positivity—it’s about survival, resilience, and reclaiming your energy when everything feels impossible.

Focus on What’s Within Your Control

When the world feels out of control, zero in on what you can influence. You may not be able to change government policies overnight, but you can make choices that protect your peace and stability.

Set Boundaries with News Consumption – It’s important to stay informed, but doomscrolling can make anxiety unbearable. Set time limits for checking news updates and follow sources that provide action steps alongside their reporting.

Simplify Your Daily Routine – During chaotic times, small rituals—like making your morning coffee, journaling for five minutes, or taking a walk—can create moments of stability and calm.

Vote, Sign Petitions, and Engage Locally – Change doesn’t always happen on a global scale first. Research local policies, support grassroots organizations, and engage in mutual aid efforts in your community.

Build and Lean Into Your Community

Crisis is isolating, but you are not alone. Now is the time to build connections that remind you of your strength and shared humanity.

Find Your People – Whether it’s an online support group, a queer-friendly community space, or a circle of close friends, connection is crucial. Surround yourself with those who understand your struggles and affirm your worth.

Practice Mutual Aid – If you’re struggling financially, emotionally, or physically, reach out. If you’re in a position to help, offer support. Whether it’s sharing resources, cooking meals for a friend, or donating when possible, collective care is a radical act of resistance.

Have Honest Conversations – The weight of today’s world is too much to carry alone. Talking about your fears and frustrations with someone who gets it can be incredibly healing.

Capitalism will tell you to grind harder, even when you’re at your breaking point. Resist that narrative.

Prioritize Rest and Self-Preservation

Capitalism will tell you to grind harder, even when you’re at your breaking point. Resist that narrative. Rest is not laziness—it’s essential.

Give Yourself Permission to Rest – If you need a day to do nothing but breathe and exist, take it. If you need sleep, don’t let guilt keep you from it. You are allowed to rest, even when the world is in crisis.

Nourish Your Body and Mind – Eating regularly, drinking water, and moving your body (even in small ways) will help maintain your energy. This isn’t about perfection—it’s about giving yourself the basics of care when everything else feels overwhelming.

Use Soothing Techniques – Sensory grounding exercises, deep breathing, and meditative practices can help regulate your nervous system. Try wrapping yourself in a blanket, listening to calming sounds, or practicing progressive muscle relaxation when anxiety spikes.

Find Small Moments of Joy and Meaning

Even in crisis, moments of beauty and joy exist. Finding them isn’t ignoring reality—it’s fueling yourself to keep going.

Engage in Creative Expression – Write, paint, dance, bake—whatever reminds you that you are more than just survival. Creativity is a powerful tool for reclaiming agency.

Laugh When You Can – Follow accounts that bring lightness to your feed, rewatch comfort shows, or spend time with people who make you smile. Even five minutes of laughter can shift your entire mood.

Practice Gratitude Without Forcing It – It’s okay if gratitude doesn’t come easily. But noticing even the smallest comforts—a warm cup of tea, a song you love, a kind interaction—can bring a sense of grounding.

Take Action Where You Can (and Forgive Yourself When You Can’t)

Activism fatigue is real. You don’t have to do everything to make a difference. Find ways to contribute that align with your capacity.

Pick One Cause and Focus – If trying to fix everything feels paralyzing, choose one issue that speaks to you and invest your energy there. It’s okay to pace yourself.

Use Your Skills for Good – Are you an artist? Use your work to spread awareness. A writer? Share helpful information. A good organizer? Support mutual aid efforts. Activism doesn’t have to look one way.

Acknowledge Your Limits – You are one person. If all you can do today is survive, that is enough. Guilt doesn’t serve the movement—rested, cared-for people do.

You Are Not Alone

The world is heavy right now, and it’s okay to feel lost, angry, or exhausted. But remember: you are not powerless. Your existence, your rest, your acts of care—these are all forms of resistance.

Take what you need from this list. Leave what doesn’t serve you. And above all, know that you matter. Even in the fire, you still matter.
